As we look at ways to overcome procrastination, you must have been acquainted with what is procrastination and its effect.

Like any other nasty habit, overcoming procrastination is a matter of choice. Once you have decided, dealing with the scourge of this menace will be easier. Now we can delve into my top ways to overcome procrastination.

  1. Identifying you are a procrastinator. A problem known and discussed is halved solved. One major way to overcome procrastination is to admit you are a victim. It is then you can apply any of these best ways to overcome procrastination. Giving excuses for procrastination is a way of feeding the menace. Having initially talked about the reasons and signs you procrastinate, it will be easier to tame the scourge of procrastinators. However, if do not see procrastination as a challenge, the chances of getting over it are narrow.
  2. Remove diversion. Everyone has things that take the better part of him and time. Since what diverts people differ, identify what takes your attention from the task. To some, it is social media that divert them while others it is their friends. All you have to do is shut yourself from such diversion.   1. Have an accountability partner. Sometimes the best way to overcome procrastination is to have someone that will hold you accountable. As with many bad habits, you need someone who will call you to order if you err. This person reminds you about your new life. Usually, the person would have been someone that has authority over you. He could also be someone you hold in high esteem who highly respects. This person ensures you stay focused. He asks you a question and ensures you stay on course. Most times, such people have overcome procrastination at a time or they are people who are highly disciplined with time.
  2. Do not be a slave to your past. One factor that can hinder your quest to overcome procrastination is failing to forgive yourself. Therefore, one step further to overcome procrastination is not to allow your last failure and defeat to hold you back. Let the past be passed while you make the best of today and be hopeful about tomorrow. Look past your previous inability and the challenges for a new lease of life. Self-defeat is often a barrier to overcoming procrastination.
  3. Avoid perfectionism. Nothing kills a vision than perfectionism. There is never a time anybody overcomes a bad habit at one sweep. Every disciplined life was built one step at a time. The task of overcoming your procrastination may be difficult at the beginning, but if you keep at it you will get over it. Therefore, do not wait for a perfect time or condition before you begin the step. You will be making progress with a single step per day. If any of my suggested best ways to overcome procrastination will work for you, then you must kill perfectionism.
  4. Set priorities and have a to-do list. Those who overcome procrastination are people who set a priority about what they want to achieve and pursue that vision. A major key to getting over the habit of procrastination is consistency. Glued to your plan and build on it steadily.
  5. Consider the long effect of procrastination. One attitude of a procrastinator is to choose a simpler assignment in place of a challenging and more rewarded task. For you to overcome procrastination, you have to consider the long-term effect of your choice.

Since procrastinator thinks only of the immediate pleasure, one the ways to overcome procrastination is to defer your immediate pleasure for a longer and better alternative. Consider which options will offer a lasting payoff of the options you have. Most times the demanding task with its difficulty offers far-reaching benefits than a simple task that require a little or no effort to accomplish.

  1. Set a deadline for yourself. Another way to overcome procrastination is to place a demand on yourself. Every night before I retire to bed, I have details of what I will do the following day with a deadline attached to each of the tasks. This deadline keeps me on my toes.

This is one secret of highly successful people. They attach deadlines to every duty. This is also one of the best ways to overcome procrastination. A stopwatch or an alarm is a good way to stop procrastination. With time set, you are likely to refrain from idle distractions that will make you unproductive or make you procrastinate.

  1. Maximize your peak period. Everyone has the time or periods he performs optimally. This is one of the best ways to overcome procrastination. The best time to face tougher responsibility is during your peak period. Some people have their peak period early in the morning. Some it is in the afternoon, while others in the evening or the midnight. This is the period you perform better. You will give your best shot at this period. This is also the right time for you to face the most arduous task in your hands.

  1. Reward yourself. A reward has a way of boosting one’s commitment. If you want to get the best out of life, learn how to appreciate yourself. This could be in the form of words of praise. You could also treat yourself to a sumptuous meal, a break, relaxation, or any other form of appreciation. Since getting over procrastination is not only at a single sweep, each milestone calls for a celebration. When you celebrate each progress, it becomes a motivation and assurance you are inching towards your goal.
  2. Break down your task into smaller chunks. It is the enormity of a task that makes some people procrastinate. The job looks big that they don’t know where or how to start. In such a case, the best way is to break the task into smaller chunks. With this method, it is easier to tackle a portion at a point and gives the best output. Therefore, adopt this method as one of the ways to overcome procrastination.
